Winter is coming, and with it comes cross-country season. The age-old staple winter diet of runners from all disciplines – track speedsters building strength, marathoners keeping sharp, and road racers pursuing a winter fix.

SOAR X N1 XC is our 8 week cross-country training and racing programme. Open to runners of all abilities and experience.

Training will take place on 8 consecutive Tuesday evenings, beginning on October 15th from our new N1 Studio and Event Space.

The training group will undertake 8 weeks of specific cross-country training, led by elite coaches, and guided by some of the most experienced racers on the circuit. Participants will then put the training to the test as they race with one another in 2 x 8km London area cross country races (November 9th and December 7th).

Participants receive -

  • 8 coached training sessions including intervals, tempo running, speed-work, hills, stretching, drills and S&C
  • A weekly group training plan, tiered to 3 levels of ability and experience
  • Tailored support and advice on cross-country racing, training, nutrition, S&C, injuries and rehab
  • Individualised coach feedback and open communication channels throughout the programme
  • Access to exclusive SOAR X N1 XC kit and offers
  • Entry to two Metropolitan League Cross Country Races in the London area on Saturday 9th November and Saturday 7th December
  • All associated race fees throughout the programme

About the coaches -

Matt Yates, SOAR X N1 XC Head Coach

Matt is a former Olympian and world top 10 middle distance runner, now regarded as one of Europe's up and coming elite running coaches after producing a number of successful athletes over a three year period.

His training method and approach is highly individual and certainly not from the traditional coaching manual. Instead it has been shaped by a combination of his own training experiences and years spent working with the world's leading coaches, athletes and sports scientists. His innovative approach has seen him turn around a number of athletic careers, helping athletes realise their true potential. Matt's approach is not for the faint hearted, but if you have 100% commitment and motivation he can help you achieve your goals and bring success to your running.

Barry Ewell, SOAR X N1 XC Assistant Coach

Barry is a former 2.22 marathon runner from the days where plimsolls and a string vest were as good as it got. He has decades of coaching experience and has worked with Matt's elite athlete training group as assistant coach for almost 3 years.

He is affectionately known as “Stopwatch” for the number of stopwatches he wears at sessions and giving, to the tenth, rep splits. He is a walking encyclopaedia of running and there is not a running book, training regime or athlete he doesn’t know about. In a Q&A on all things running there's nothing that will leave Barry short of an answer.
